Audio Files in WordPress
There aren’t a lot of good options for pure audio presentation in WordPress. wordTube and ProPlayer really do a great job for me.
I manage the blog for Jamie McIntyre, former CNN Senior Pentagon Correspondent. Jamie recently posted an audio interview with Gen. Trey Obering (Obering on Obama Missile Shift) but I wasn’t prepared to host an audio file.
Eek.
I scrambled to find a good WordPress plugin for audio files and originally settled on WPaudio, a great plugin that was super simple to manage. I just didn’t love the user experience, and I had a few issues managing the display of this plugin in the article. Make no mistake though, WPaudio is HOT.
I really wanted something YouTube-like so I could have a picture with a play button to click on, like a video.
I spent a few more hours searching and testing and finally came up with a great solution using wordTube and ProPlayer. wordTube gives that YouTube behavior and ProPlayer installs the JW FLV MEDIA PLAYER. What a great combination!
I couldn’t be happier with wordTube. It has its own management screen in WordPress within the Media section, and coding the audio piece to play was very easy – I just used the code [media id=1]
Here’s the wordTube Add Media screen. Just add a photo and an audio file, it’s REALLY simple.

Here’s a media file set after it’s uploaded and in use. Really, wordTube is just sweet!
